During our visit, the numbers had dwindled to about 38 penguins and sources online are advising a continued decline since. This decline is concerning and it does illustrate a need for more protection for these little creatures.  It's an opportunity you won't want to miss - witnessing the nightly ritual of these resilient creatures is a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts to protect their habitat.

1. Best Time to Visit

The best time to see the penguins is during the winter months (June to August), when their numbers are more stable, and they are most active.

2. Getting There

Access the island via the scenic horse-drawn tram or the footbridge. The 0.5-mile (600-meter) walk across the bridge offers stunning views of the surrounding waters.

3. What to Bring

Dress warmly, as it can get chilly at night. Comfortable shoes are essential for the walk back and forth, and don’t forget to bring a sense of wonder!
